Classroom-based training

Each Wednesday and Thursday morning experienced pastors will lead you through books of the Bible, teach you about working in a ministry context and give you opportunities to try out teaching and preaching.

 You will:

  • Study Mark, Exodus, Ephesians and a Bible overview.

  • Have a go at leading Bible studies, giving short talks and receive feedback and encouragement.

  • Grapple with ministry topics such as how to evangelize in the workplace and how to address conflict in the church.

  • Grow in Gospel Centered living.

Church based placement

In your placement, you will be able use the tools you are learning in a safe and encouraging environment.

You will spend 3-4 days per week serving God's people in a church or parachurch ministry. Opportunities to serve may include teaching in Sunday School, leading church services, running a small group as well as many practical acts of service.

Mentoring

A key part of our training is the opportunity to spend time with an experienced pastor or church planter.

You can expect to meet with your mentor twice per month. They will: help you think through how you are growing as a godly leader; pray with you; and give you encouragement and feedback. You will also have the opportunity to see up close how they are seeking to faithfully lead God's people.

Come for an open day

There is no better way to get a feel for the internship than to come and visit.

“I have been learning a lot from pastors, staff, Samurai graduates who are now working at various missionary organizations. We are not only acquiring biblical knowledge but also learning to examine our hearts and going back to the gospel."

Questions

How much does it cost?

Through the generosity of supporters in Japan and around the world we are able to provide this course free of charge. In fact, we are able to help subside the stipend you will pay to an intern up to 50%.

This is possible because of the generosity of many brothers and sisters who believe passionately that more workers are needed for the harvest fields of Japan and are convinced of the importance of church based internships.

Do I have to do it full time?

We believe studying full time on the Samurai Projects will enable you to make the most of our training. However, we recognise that everyone’s situation is different and in some cases it may be possible to study with a part-time placement. We’d love to discuss options with you.

Is this for me?

We are looking for men and women with evangelical convictions from all Christian denominations who are eager to learn more about the Lord Jesus, and have a go at teaching the Bible to others.

You may well have experience teaching the Bible already, perhaps in children’s ministry or small group contexts. However, this is not necessary in order to apply. You will need to have the recommendation of your church pastor and we recommend you speak to them.

If you are unsure whether the Samurai Projects is for you we’d love to chat to you.
